SQL Server 2000
From Big Database List
SQL Server 2000 was an update to SQL Server 7.0. While SQL Server 7.0 was a major rewrite of the SQL Server codebase, SQL Server 2000 was more of a consolidation of this release, adding features that missed the 7.0 timeline, fixing features based on customer feedback and adding necessary stability and data management logic. SQL Server 2000 is also called SQL Server 8.0. Originally this was going to be SQL Server 7.5, however enough new features were added that Microsoft instead chose to make it a full new release of the product.
Despite the subsequent releases of SQL Server 2005 & SQL Server 2008 it is estimated that most production installations of SQL Server are still using SQL Server 2000.
